Hi All
Am on MTX 20mg, seem to be doing ok on it but over the last few days I have developed a tickly throat, it's not sore just annoying.
Makes me cough sometimes when eating and in the night. The cough is just a dry cough, doesn't hurt my chest and I'm not bringing anything up (sorry about the detail). I feel fine in myself (well normal RA self), tired, but no feeling that I'm going down with anything. I see the consultant at the beginning of June, should I just mention it then, or do I need to see my GP?

Hi. Mtx can induce something called pneumonitis. I don't think you need to worry too much but it's really important that you get medical advice from the GP or nurse as soon as possible. Good luck. As so many of us take mtx, please could you keep us up to date with the advice you are given, and good luck with getting rid of that cough. Naomi.

Thank you both for your answers. Luckily it seems to be much better, had a really good nights sleep, no coughing at all. If it starts again I will visit the doctors and let you know the outcome.
Thanks again

HI'
I seem to get a tickly cough, as though something is irritating my chest, comes and goes. Wonder if this is the same thing. Does not bother me, but have wondered if its to do with drugs. I must keep a note of when it happens. Very rarely I get a cough even with a cold, but then, I really don't want to risk having to come off mtx, I know how much it helps me. I've never heard of pneumontis Naomi, will look it up.

Hi. I had a cough last year. When I told my GP he took it very seriously. I had to stop mtx and was sent to see a lung specialist. After various tests including a CT scan it turned out to be an hiatus hernia. I've got my 6 month follow up appointment next week but the medication I was given seems to have worked - the cough is gone. I was off mtx for 9 weeks - it would have been longer but I kept pushing for appointments and got some cancellations. A cough certainly shouldn't be ignored - I was quite scared when I found out what it could have been. Good luck.
Sue
